Wig FAQs – Everything You Need to Know

Glueless Installation

What does "glueless" actually mean?

A glueless wig is designed to stay on without any bonding glue or adhesive. RayHair glueless wigs use a combination of adjustable straps and 3 internal combs (one at the front hairline, one on each side) to grip your natural hair or a wig cap underneath. You adjust the strap at the back of the cap to dial in a snug, secure fit.

How secure is a glueless wig for everyday wear?

When fitted correctly, a glueless wig sits firmly through normal daily activity — commuting, working, light exercise, and being outdoors in a breeze. The combs anchor to your hair, and the elastic strap holds the cap shape. Vigorous sport, very high winds, or rides on roller coasters are a different story — see the section on adhesive below.

What are the basic installation steps?

  1. Put on a wig grip band or dome cap over your natural hair (optional but recommended for a smoother base).
  2. Place the wig on your head from front to back, aligning the lace along your natural hairline.
  3. Secure the front comb just behind your hairline and the two side combs above each ear.
  4. Tighten the back strap until the cap feels snug but not tight.
  5. Lay the lace flat using a fine-tooth comb, then melt it down with a blow-dryer on a low-heat setting for a seamless look.
  6. Style as desired. No glue, no waiting.

When would I still want to use adhesive?

Adhesive can add extra peace of mind in specific situations: intense workouts, swimming, or any activity where you need absolute confidence that the wig won't shift. A wig grip spray or a small amount of lace glue along the perimeter is sufficient — you do not need glue for everyday wear.

Lace Types & Construction

What is the difference between 5×5, 13×4, and 13×6 lace?

The numbers refer to the size of the lace panel in inches (width × depth). A 5×5 closure sits at the crown and gives a smaller parting area — great for centre or slight off-centre parts. A 13×4 frontal spans ear to ear with a 4-inch depth, allowing versatile parting across the entire front. A 13×6 frontal is the same width but gives an extra 2 inches of depth, making deep side parts and baby-hair styling easier.

What is a T-Part lace front?

A T-Part wig has a T-shaped lace section: a strip along the front hairline and a small panel extending back toward the crown. It is lighter and less expensive than a full frontal while still giving a natural-looking parting at the centre or slightly to one side.

Human Hair Blend vs. Synthetic vs. Futura Fiber

What is a human hair blend wig?

A blend wig combines real human hair with high-quality synthetic fibers. RayHair's Burmese Curl wig, for example, is a 30% human hair blend — meaning roughly 30% of the fiber is genuine human hair and 70% is premium synthetic. This gives the wig a more natural look and feel than fully synthetic, while keeping the price more accessible than 100% human hair.

How is a blend different from 100% human hair?

100% human hair can be coloured, bleached, and permanently straightened just like hair growing from your scalp. A blend behaves more like the synthetic portion of its fibers — you can use limited heat and gentle styling, but you cannot chemically process it. Treat a blend wig more like a high-quality synthetic than a human-hair wig when it comes to colouring and heavy chemical treatments.

What is Futura Fiber?

Futura Fiber is a heat-resistant synthetic fiber designed to withstand temperatures up to around 180 °C / 356 °F. It moves and reflects light similarly to human hair. RayHair's Futura Fiber lace wigs can be curled, waved, or straightened with heat tools — within the temperature limit — making them significantly more versatile than standard synthetic wigs.

Heat Styling

Can I use heat tools on my RayHair wig?

It depends on the wig's fiber:

  • Futura Fiber wigs — heat-friendly up to approximately 180 °C / 356 °F. Use a heat protectant and start at a lower temperature.
  • Human hair blend wigs — light heat styling is possible, but avoid high temperatures. Use a heat protectant and avoid excessive heat to maintain quality and longevity.
  • Standard synthetic wigs — do not use heat tools unless the product listing specifically states the wig is heat-friendly.

When in doubt, start low, go slow, and always check the individual product listing for heat guidance.

Can I use a blow-dryer?

Yes — a blow-dryer on a low or medium heat setting is fine for all RayHair wig types and is actually useful for melting the lace down during installation. Avoid concentrating high heat on one spot for an extended period.

Washing & Care

How do I wash my wig?

  1. Detangle gently before washing. For curly styles (like the Burmese Curl), separate curls with your fingers — do not brush through them.
  2. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water from root to tip.
  3. Apply a small amount of gentle, sulphate-free shampoo. Work it through carefully — avoid scrubbing or tangling the fibers.
  4. Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear.
  5. Apply a lightweight conditioner from mid-length to ends. Leave for 2–3 minutes, then rinse.
  6. Gently squeeze out excess water with a microfibre towel — do not rub.
  7. Air-dry on a wig stand where possible. Use a blow-dryer on a cool or low-heat setting if you need to speed things up.

How often should I wash my wig?

Every 8–12 wears is a general guide, or sooner if you've been in a particularly humid environment, exercised heavily, or used a lot of styling product. Overwashing can shorten the wig's lifespan.

Shedding & Lifespan

Is some shedding normal?

Yes. A small amount of shedding is normal, especially in the first few wears as loose fibers work their way out. Excessive shedding, however, is not — it usually indicates that the wig has been brushed too aggressively, washed too frequently, or exposed to too much heat. Detangling gently from the ends upward, rather than pulling from the root, greatly reduces shedding.

How long will my wig last?

With proper care, a well-constructed lace wig can last many months. Lifespan depends on how often you wear it, how well you maintain it, and whether you stay within its heat limits. Glueless wigs that are taken on and off regularly and stored on a wig stand typically last longer than those left in static styles for extended periods.

Fit & Sizing

How do I know if the wig will fit my head?

Most RayHair wigs feature an adjustable cap with elastic straps that accommodate the average adult head size (approximately 21–23 inches circumference). To measure your head, wrap a soft tape measure around your head just above your ears and across your natural hairline. If your measurement falls within this range, a standard cap will fit. The adjustable back strap lets you fine-tune the tension.

What if the lace is too long at the front?

Lace frontals and closures are intentionally cut with extra lace so you can customise your hairline. Use small, sharp scissors to trim the lace as close to the hairline as you're comfortable with. Trim a little at a time — you can always remove more, but you can't add it back.

What is pre-plucking and do RayHair wigs come pre-plucked?

Pre-plucking refers to thinning the hair along the hairline of the lace to mimic the way natural hair grows — denser in the middle, sparser at the temples. Some RayHair wigs come pre-plucked for a ready-to-wear look. Check the individual product listing for confirmation. If yours isn't pre-plucked, a professional stylist can do this for you.
